These are always awkward and way too formal so let’s make this real and lighthearted!
I grew up in the middle of nowhere in a town of 600ish people where you knew everyone’s dog, had to be home before the street lights came on and went to highschool with your parents’ slopitch buddy’s kid. The home I lived in was over 100 years old, but my mom always painted and updated our furniture to stay with the times. That being said, many of my friends lived in newer homes and I always found myself wondering how I could bridge the gap. I started drawing floor plans and giving them to my parents in grade one, fully expecting them to hire a contractor and add that waterslide out of my bedroom window into the underground pool that would be installed in our yard.
Lucky for me, I found myself enrolled in the interior design course at NAIT, where in addition to colour theory and finish selections, we took AutoCAD classes, basic structures, history of architecture, construction practices, electrical, and HVAC. This led me to my first job at a commercial design company. I loved the experience and unique projects, but my heart was in residential design. After some soul searching and world travel, I landed the next big opportunity at an Edmonton home builder. This is where I gained the experience, confidence and network to step out on my own!
In addition to designing homes for other people, I LOVE a good DIY project for my own home. In my spare time, you can find me browsing local reclamation, thrift and building supply stores, figuring out how to use my man’s power tools or scrolling Pinterest for all the latest and most affordable trends. When I’m not doing something design related, I’m spending time with my family, running my stepsons to all their sports or doing literally any outdoor activity you can think of!
Thanks for getting to know me!!
